Hey there! It’s been unusually quiet around here hasn’t it? A lot has happened this past month or so. Life can get a little crazy when family lives 12+ hours away in one direction and 20+ hours in the other. Once summertime hits I begin to scheme and dream. I need to go places, see things, and spend time with the people I love.
All that scheming and dreaming somehow turned into plans. Borderline crazy plans. I’m talking driving 4,600 miles across the country with a preschooler and tweenager plans. It was everything I wanted: going, seeing, and doing with plenty of family time. The plan was to drive to my folks with Steven, stay there a couple of weeks, drive back home with my mom and sister, pickup the hubby, drive the 22+ hours to my in laws on the East coast, spend a week with them, fly the hubby home, then make our way back home with plenty of stops along the way. Is your head spinning yet? Yeah, I told you it was nuts!
It was almost time to go and I was trying to prep for the trip by packing and making sure my commitments were taken care of ahead of time…and then life happened. My sweet grandma passed away after years living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. She gave me all the love a grandchild could ever want from their grandma and I’m forever grateful for all the memories I have of her. We were going to cancel the trip, but in the end we decided to go anyway. What a better way to celebrate life than by going out there and having adventures with the ones you love? We each mourned for her in the ways we needed. We spent so much time together, time we don’t usually have together because of all that distance getting in the way. Our trip was wonderful, crazy, and filled with so many memories. If you ask me, that’s what it’s all about…making memories together…
I won’t bore you with the hundreds of other pictures of our trip, but you can trust me when I say it was everything we wanted and needed. I’ll be sharing more about a few of the places we stopped on our journey so I hope you’ll check back soon!
