As usual, Valentine’s Day was pretty low key around here. We aren’t into buying gifts for each other. I like to remind my husband that he has it pretty easy. I don’t expect or want jewelry. I don’t need flowers or chocolates. A simple card with some sweet words and we’re set.
I did make a special treat for my loves. Strawberries were on sale this week and I always keep chocolate chips in my pantry. I had never made chocolate covered strawberries before but figured why not. Making them was a blast! I kinda wish it wasn’t so easy. I’m afraid this might become a regular thing around here. They were so good though. The boys absolutely loved them. I like to think this was a much better gift than buying junk we don’t need from the store. Besides, it’s fruit so it’s healthy right? ;)
Since Steven is big into coloring right now I love finding fun printables online. I printed a cute Thomas and Friends Valentine from Sprout. Steven colored it for his dad while I made the strawberries. Apparently Steven likes the taste of crayons. We now have only half a red crayon. Good times.
This might sound crazy to some, but I don’t like going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. It’s just too busy. Forget going anywhere relaxing with my toddler. It isn’t going to happen. Instead I’m perfectly happy eating a nice meal at home. I made ravioli in a tomato cream sauce. Delicious and crazy easy. It was a win for all of us.
I’m so lucky to have my incredible husband and son in my life. We show each other so much love every single day of the year. That’s why, in our house Valentine’s Day is really an ordinary day with pretty decorations and extra I love yous. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
