Hug In A Mug: Cake Mix Recipe and Free Printable | Parental Perspective

Nothing says I love you more than baked goods. Unfortunately, they don’t travel well in the mail. I had to find a way around this problem. When I saw a recipe for a mug cake on Made from Scratch I had one of those ah hah moments. Sending a mix for mug cake would be the perfect solution.

Hug in a Mug Cake Mix

Adapted from Made from Scratch’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake

  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate or peanut butter chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon sprinkles

*Add 2 tablespoons milk and 1 tablespoon oil only when ready to microwave

Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together.

Add the chips and sprinkles.

Mix well.

Place the mixture in a storage bag. Snack size bags are perfect for this. Carefully remove as much of the air as possible before you seal the bag up.

I created a free printable label that you can access here. You’ll have to resize it in whatever photo program you’re comfortable with. I sized it at 4″ x 6 1/2″ for my snack size bag and used the print and cut feature on my Silhouette. Of course you could use a ruler and scissors instead. Once you’ve got your label printed, cut, and folded; align it so that it covers the closure of the storage bag.

Staple the label to each side of the top of the bag. Make sure you’re stapling above the closure.

Now your hug in a mug is ready to share.

This is an awesome idea! It would be perfect for long-distance birthdays. There’s a couple birthdays coming up this month, and I’ve been worrying over what gifts to send. This would be great because it’s homemade and budget-friendly!

Thanks Jessica! I sent these out for Valentine’s Day, but I think I’ll be doing this more often for things like birthdays too. It is so cheap and quick to mix up. It was inexpensive to mail out so that was a plus too! I’m so thrifty that it drives me crazy when it costs more in postage than the actual gift I’m sending.

It is definitely one of the best tasting mug cake recipes I’ve tried.
