You know I just had to go the DIY route and make these Magic Bands my own. These lovelies took a while, but they were totally worth it! I used printable coloring pages for each character’s image and then cut them out of adhesive vinyl using my Silhouette. While they’re not perfect, I’m very happy with them considering how unbelievably tiny some of the details are. Everyone chose a character they wanted and I did my best to make it happen…
Since I’m a huge Little Mermaid fan, it was a must that my Magic Band have Ariel. I went through at least five designs until this one worked out for me. One of the trickiest parts is finding an image that works well with the width of the magic band. I was thrilled when this one finally came together.
When we went to Disney last year a very sweet cast member gave Steven a small Donald Duck plush as we were checking in. Being the stinker that he is, he spent the week not giving poor Donald the time of day. We get home and bam, “Duck” is his new best friend and must go everywhere with him. Donald is still his best buddy so it is only fitting his Magic Band has his favorite duck.
Sorcerer Mickey is for the hubby. He said he didn’t care what was on his so the rest of us chose for him. Besides, looking at it makes me think of Fantastmic which makes me smile!
Here I had another indecisive character picker with my sister. We finally convinced her to go with Lilo and Stitch. She was very much a Lilo when she was little (okay, so she still is!). So sassy with ridiculous things to say. This was definitely the way to go because she loves it. Stitch fit perfectly on the other side of the Magic Band.
I went with adorable/loveable Stitch over terror causing stitch. Isn’t he a cutie?
Minnie Mouse was actually the first band that I had decorated. My mom asked for Minnie, but I don’t think she expected her to be such a doll. I just love her pose. So sweet! Just for fun I decorated the back with simple Mickey ears.
Well, there you have it! These were time consuming because of all the little pieces, but such a blast to decorate. I’m thinking about adding Flounder and/or Sebastian to the other side of my Magic Band so if anyone would like a tutorial comment and let me know!

Here you can find my tutorial for turning those cut files into colorful layered vinyl designs…
I haven’t tried it myself, but I read that you can decorate Disney Magic Bands with temporary tattoos. If you’re interested in going that route you can actually buy printable temporary tattoo paper. Cool right?! It is made by Silhouette but you don’t have to have a Silhouette to use it. You print the designs using your inkjet printer and then cut them out using your Silhouette or scissors. You can find Silhouette’s printable tattoo paper here on Amazon. Although I haven’t used it on the Magic Bands, I have used it for regular temporary tattoos. They come out great and are so much fun!
You are so talented and creative. I love them!
Thank you auntie!
Please do a tutorial! My granddaughter will be dancing at Disney in November and I would love to decorate her magic band for her.
How fun for your granddaughter! I just posted a tutorial for how to turn coloring book images into cut files. Soon I’ll share how to make layered vinyl designs just like the ones I used on my magic bands. I hope that helps!
I can’t wait for our next trip!!
Yes please! we are going back to disney this year and I would love to make ours fun!
I created a couple of tutorials explaining how to make the vinyl decals with a Silhouette. First you’ll want to create the cut files using this tutorial . Next you’ll want to figure out how to layer the vinyl using this tutorial . Hope that helps Jenn! Have a terrific time!
Hi! I love the idea of totally customizing our bands using my silhouette! However, I am wondering if you’ve used them yet and how they held up. I’m worried about the vinyl peeling. Did you seal them in any way? Thanks! :)
We used them for over a week in Florida’s extreme heat and humidity. I used fairly strong adhesive vinyl and didn’t seal the magic bands. We didn’t swim in our bands but did get caught in a few rain storms. Most of the designs held on pretty well. Some of the more intricate, smaller pieces started moving around after a few days. Some days were hot and sunny enough that it made the adhesive soften on the vinyl so the smaller pieces would move around if rubbed up against something. I didn’t have problems with any of the larger pieces moving around or peeling up. I wish I would have sealed them, but I wasn’t sure with what. Regardless, for me it was worth decorating them because they still looked pretty darn good by the end of the week. Have an incredible trip!
