A Review of Ikea's Lillabo Train Set | Parental PerspectiveThe very first thing my son says to me in the morning is “Mommy! Play choo choos!”. This happens every single morning. He runs straight to his train set and goes wild. The look on his face is like Christmas morning, every morning. What a sight! This morning he let me join him. We pulled the trains through this, over that, and I think there were even a few flying trains. I love seeing his imagination run wild!

A Review of Ikea's Lillabo Train Set | Parental Perspective

When we were considering starting his train collection with the Ikea Lillabo train set I remember not being able to find many reviews. Around here we try to get the most from our money, so we are always checking out reviews before we buy anything. This is especially true for toys. I try to find toys that will grow with my son, spark his imagination, and won’t be a waste of space. Even though I couldn’t find many reviews for this train set, we decided to give it a shot. It was under $10 and made by Ikea. How could we go wrong?

The 20 piece set comes with four train cars and almost 10 feet worth of track. The easiest set up is the figure 8, but you can make other track formations. The plastic piece that connects the tracks makes it easy for my son to create any sort of path that he wants. I love that it includes a bridge in the starter set. There is just something about pushing the train over the bridge that my toddler loves. The trains are made of solid wood and connected by magnets. They’re the perfect size for small hands, but not small enough that I have to be overly worried about choking. The trains glide so smoothly on the tracks. He can choose to push or pull a long string of trains since the magnets are strong enough to handle whatever he demands. His grandma picked up wooden Dash and Ferdinand Thomas and Friends trains to add to his collection. They work perfectly with the Ikea track and even connect to the Ikea trains without any problems.

We’ve had the Lillabo train set for almost half a year now and he is every bit as excited about it today as he was the day he got it. It has exceeded our expectations. The train tracks are constructed of solid wood. Have you ever bought an inexpensive wooden toy and ended up having to get rid of it because the wood was uneven and full of splinters? That is not an issue with this train set. The whole train set has proved to be incredibly well made. My son can be rough with his toys, but not a single piece of the train or track has come undone. They’ve been stepped on, tossed around, chewed on, and all around loved on. Talk about a durable toy. The Lillabo train set also takes up very little spaced if stacked properly. You could easily store it for the future since it’s one of those timeless toys.

Ikea has no idea I’m writing this review. We simply love this train set. In fact, we love it so much that we bought a second set the last time we went to Ikea. Yes, it’s that great!
